The Uganda Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) recently conducted an oversight field visit to assess the implementation of Health Systems Strengthening investments, focusing on the COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) in several districts.
The Global Fund has committed USD 94.8 million for healthcare infrastructure improvements from January 2024 to December 2025, including investments in oxygen plants, incinerators, and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs). The visit revealed significant progress in infrastructure and AGYW interventions, but also highlighted challenges such as high HIV infection rates among adolescents, project delays, sustainability concerns, and data discrepancies.
Recommendations include targeted HIV prevention strategies, improved data reporting, enhanced collaboration between health ministries, and the integration of TB and Malaria services into AGYW programs. Addressing these challenges is crucial to ensuring the long-term success and impact of these health programs in Uganda.
